BOATS USED

Their are many ways to run a river. Being able to row, paddle and drift down your favorite stream is truly a special privilege.

Outdoor Ventures can train you in a variety of hand powered river craft ranging from inflatable paddle boats, gear boats, catarafts, drift boats, whitewater dories and even inflatable kayaks.

Driftboats and Dories are our specialty!

Two of our instructors, William Blair and Robb Grubb have been rowing drift boats since they were able to physically pick up an oar, over 50 years for William and 25 years for Robb! With this experience, combined with an in-depth knowledge regarding the fundamentals of instruction, you are guaranteed a fluid and thorough learning experience when it comes to rowing a boat. They will be able to show you advanced rowing techniques that only their experience in these highly versitile boats can teach you.

There is nothing like being able to turn your boating experience into a fluid motion down a river, never in doubt of your abilities or your boats capabilities.

The use of your own boat is also recommended, since that is the one you will be using on the water.

RIVER BOAT CONSTRUCTION

Modern recreational river boats have taken shape into the above mentioned craft as well as canoes and kayaks.

A variety of materials are being used to build inflatables such as hypolon (rubber), PVC (plastic), urethane and nylon.

Drift boats and dories have historically been built out of fir plywood, cedar mahogany and oak. Modern river boats are now being constructed out of aluminum, fiberglass, foam, roto-molded plastic and even polymer!

If you need advice on which type of boat will fit your needs, feel free to give us a call.

Outdoor Ventures guides have rowed, paddled, drifted, flown in, packed out, and carried on top, almost every type of river boat available!
